Michael R. Childs
Michael R. Childs, resident of rural Red Rock, passed Sunday morning, September 27, 2009, at Ponca City Medical Center. He was 35. Michael was born December 26, 1973, in Lawrence, Kansas, the son of Roy Childs and Jolavon Butler Childs. He was a 1993 graduate of Frontier High School. He had been employed with the Otoe-Missouria Tribal Maintenance Department.
His enjoyments were his participation in the tribal straight dancing and bowling which he had just recently taken up. Michael was also an avid weight lifter since his teen years.
He is survived by his parents, Roy and Jolavon Childs of Red Rock; six children, Jennifer, Wendy, Ashley, McKayla, Nizhoni and Billy; three brothers, George Childs, Willie Childs and Stacy Childs; one sister, Cheyenne; and several other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George and Virginia Childs, and maternal grandparents, Benny and Wilhelmina Butler.
The prayer service will be held Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the Otoe-Missouria Cultural Center near Red Rock. A noon meal will be served on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the Cultural Center with the funeral to follow at 2 p.m. The Native American Church and Randy Whitehorn will preside over the service. Burial will be in the Otoe-Missouria Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. Casket bearers will be George Childs, Willie Childs, Stacy Childs, Justin Mehojah, Shane Turner and Vernon Tohee.
